Copy-editing and proofreading

"I was very satisfied. I appreciated the additional comments as well as the positive support I received from Damonza. As a newer author with technical challenges, I appreciated their patience."

You’ve painstakingly crafted every word, sculpted each chapter into shape, and polished your manuscript into a true literary gem. But even the brightest diamonds require a final polish, and that’s where our proofreading service steps in.

Ensuring Your Text is Polished to Perfection

We know that even the most talented writers need a second pair of eyes to catch the little things. Our team of professionals (real human beings – not AI bots, I promise!) will meticulously work through your manuscript, correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting. Inconsistencies in style and grammar will also be addressed to ensure a smooth, coherent read. American English and British English style conventions are available as options.

Bridging the Gaps

Sometimes, a minor adjustment can make all the difference. If required, we will provide edits that clarify potential misunderstandings, ensuring your story shines through without losing its unique voice.

Tailored to Your Needs

Should your editing requirements extend beyond our standard copy-editing and proofreading service, such as manuscript assessment (developmental editing) or substantive/content editing, we’re happy to provide a customised quote tailored to your specific needs. Whether your book has been through a rigorous editing process or is still a bit raw, we’ll work to bring it to its full potential.

Fast and Reliable Turnaround

We understand your anticipation of seeing your work ready for the world. Our standard turnaround time starts at 14 days, however, this may vary depending on your manuscript and our current workload. The exact number of manuscripts we can take on simultaneously depends on their length and editing state, but rest assured, we’re here to meet your deadlines.

Combined copy-editing and proofreading (Recommended)

This service reviews your writing to ensure it sounds professional and there are no language and typographical errors. This happens at the end of the writing process, once the content is organized and you do not have anything else to add or delete.

Spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar and style consistency, general grammatical errors, and the correct tense of verbs are all checked, with the errors corrected with document tracking tools.

The process also involves checking the document for other potential issues, such as sentence structure (syntax), word choice, paragraph length, formatting, and continuity in the overall content, and if needed, rewriting small sections to improve the clarity of a sentence.

This combination service includes:

  1. Laying out the manuscript to international publishing industry standards, ready for interior formatting.
  2. Three rounds of copy-editing if it is required. We work through the manuscript twice during each round. Thus, we will have carefully worked through the manuscript six times after the final round of copy-editing.
  3. Copy-editing notes.
  4. Copy-editing the back-cover blurb and the synopsis.
  5. Developing a Style Sheet (a technical document for the proofreader who will check the galley or printed proof copy).
  6. Applying either Merriam-Webster English Dictionary conventions (American English style and usage) or Cambridge English Dictionary conventions (British English style and usage).
  7. Limited fact-checking

Fee: Starts at $0.024 per word (full quote and timeline to be provided upon review of manuscript).

Proofreading only

Our proofreading service is the final step in the editing process, ensuring your manuscript is polished and ready for publication. This service focuses on identifying and correcting any remaining errors after the content has been fully edited and revised.

Proofreading ensures your writing is free of:

  • Spelling mistakes
  • Punctuation errors
  • Typographical errors
  • Incorrect grammar
  • Inconsistent capitalization

Our proofreaders meticulously examine your manuscript to catch any overlooked issues and make sure every detail is perfect. Unlike copy-editing, which may involve some rewriting for clarity and style, proofreading is solely about ensuring accuracy and consistency.

This service includes:

  1. Thorough review of spelling and punctuation: We ensure all typographical errors and inconsistencies are corrected.
  2. Consistency checks: We verify that capitalization, abbreviations, and other stylistic choices are consistent throughout the manuscript.
  3. Attention to detail: Our proofreaders catch minor errors that may have been missed during previous editing stages.
  4. Final read-through: We provide a careful, final read-through to ensure the manuscript is ready for publication.

Fee: Starts at $0.012 per word (full quote to be provided upon review of manuscript).
