Reader Poll Results on Generative AI on Book Covers

These polls are mentioned in the article, Your Readers Don’t Care if Your Book Cover Uses AI.

Head-to-head poll: option A shows a blurred cover with 'NO AI' and 13 votes; option B shows a blurred cover 'INCLUDES GENERATIVE AI' with 17 votes; B wins. Ranked poll cards: left shows 'No AI' (3rd place), middle is the winner 'Includes Generative AI' with 57% of votes, right shows 'Fully AI-Generated' (2nd place). Poll results comparing 'Fully AI-Generated' vs 'No AI' with winner 'Fully AI-Generated' (63%). ** Head-to-head poll results: option A 'NO AI' 28% (14 votes) vs option B 'INCLUDES GENERATIVE AI' 72% (36 votes).

Between 30 and 50 readers within each target market for that genre were polled. Although the results appear to be clearly in favor of covers that include generative AI, that’s not the most interesting outcome of these polls. Readers don’t appear to care whether generative AI was used at all. Across all of the polls, the comments focused almost entirely on genre fit, visual appeal, and reader expectations. The method used to create the cover was largely irrelevant to the people choosing between them. In other words, if the use of generative AI were a significant factor in readers’ decision-making, you would expect to see it reflected in either the results or the comments. It's not.
